Dr Samuel Small.Samuel married Elizabeth Barnard.

ECR- Dr. Samuel Small came to Jay from NY state about the beginning of the century and settled on Jay Hill where he began to practise and lived till he died. He mar. Elizabeth Barnard of Dixfield who died at the home of her son Dr. Samuel Small, Jr of Temple, at the age of 100 years. Dr. Small was a scholar, witty and fond of telling stories. In the war of 1812, he was medical examiner for drafted soldiers of Oxford Co. One Gilbert Winslow of Livermore was drafted and came for examination exempltion at the time of the March Town Meeting. A wrestling match on the Common - Wm Grose was Champion. Dr. Small told Winslow if he could put Grose on his back he should have exemption papers. Grose was soon put on his back and Winslow went home exempt rom duty. Asked what he thot (sic) the country would be in 100 years, he said he would like to live till he was 95. Then he headed up in a cask of wine for 10,000 years, then wake up to see what in hell the world was doing. He called himself the laziest man in town.

Note from KBRG- This family structure is confusing as ECR lists Eliza as marrying both Wm Small and Dr Samuel Small. I have tried to place the children per her notes but it is not conclusive and needs further research as she has Eliza and Elizabeth Barnard marrying cross generations.

Elizabeth Barnard died in Temple. She married Dr Samuel Small.

died at 100 years of age.

Otis H Johnson , Rev.Otis married Eliza Small.

ECR- Rev Otis H Johnson born in Minot, ME came to Jay as an apprentice to Aruna Holman in his cabinet shop. He married Eliza Small daugher of Dr. Samuel Small. Soon after his marriage be began to preach and was ordained a Univ. minister in New Portland, He held pastorate in Calais, Oldtown, and Readfield and supplied in several towns. Last of his life he came back to old homestead of Dr Small on Jay Hill. 4 children: Abbie, Lizzie, Marshall, Harrison O.

Eliza Small [Parents].Eliza married Otis H Johnson , Rev.
